Opening of In Between an Exhibition of Works by Avigdor Arikha
Doron Sabag Collection, ORS Ltd., Tel Aviv
Mira Lapidot and Doron Sebbag in Conversation with Dr. Sefy Hendler
In local and international art circles, Avigdor Arikha (1929–2010) has been hailed as the most prominent and successful artist to emerge from Israel and one of the world masters of the twentieth century. His work is mentioned in histories of art alongside that of Caravaggio and Mondrian. Mira Lapidot, chief curator of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art since 2021, and Doron Sebbag, one of the leading art collectors in Israel, will talk with art historian Dr. Sefy Hendler about Arikha's legacy and his place in the history of Israeli and world art.
The works in this exhibition were created during various periods of the artist’s life and are part of the art collection of Doron Sabag, ORS Ltd. They attest to the strong bond between collector and artist that was forged over the years. The exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, and lithographs and include self-portraits, portraits of friends (including Samuel Beckett and art curator Yona Fischer) and of Arikha’s wife, Anne, alongside paintings and drawings of landscapes of Tel Aviv, Paris, and Jerusalem, the cities between which Arikha divided his time.
