Golnaz Hashemzadeh Bonde was born in Iran, and as a child fled to Sweden with herparents. She is a graduate of the Stockholm School of Economics, and, among other pursuits, founded a nonprofit organization to fight against marginalization in society. Her second novel, “What We Owe,” relates the story of Nahid, an Iranian woman who flees her country after Khomeini’s rise to power. The book won literary awards, The Times designated it a “masterpiece,” and it was translated into 25 languages. Hashemzadeh Bonde will talk with actor and singer Liraz Charhi about refugees and immigration, the longing for the bygone Iran, the current turmoil in Iran and the Hijab Protest, and about her life, which she divides among literature, business, and social activism.

An event that forms part of the special series “On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny”, in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Israel and dedicated to an examination of the impact of political storms on the life of the ordinary citizen - and their reflection in literature. How or even can we change our destiny with our own hands? The two sessions of the series were created taking account of the turbulent political reality in Israel and in other parts of the world.
