The year 1965 was a defining one in the life of 21-year-old poet Yona Wallach. In the winter, she was hospitalized and experimented with psychedelic drugs in the Talbiyeh neighborhood of Jerusalem. In the spring, she went to live alone at the Notre Dame monastery, near the Old City. By that summer, she was already engaged to the Polish pickpocket Tadeusz S. During this period, she also wrote some of the most beautiful works of Hebrew poetry ever written: “Lotte,” “Nizeta,” “Cornelia,” and “Sebastian.” During the tour, we will trace this year of Wallach's life and hear excerpts from the trilogy of plays she wrote about the monastery, which were edited and published together under the title Monument of Leprosy: The Complete Dramatic Works (2021) by poets Oded Carmeli and Shani Pocker, who will lead the tour.
