* We are sorry to inform you that the event is canceled since the writer Peter Handke will not be arriving to Israel *
Peter Handke (Austria), esteemed author, playwright, screenwriter, and film director, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2019 “for an influential work that with linguistic ingenuity … explored the periphery and the specificity of human experience.” He is also known for writing the screenplay for the immortal film Wings of Desire with German film director Wim Wenders. In his 1972 novella A Sorrow Beyond Dreams, Handke attempts to trace the story of his mother’s life and understand from her perspective the distress and despair that led to her suicide. A new translation was recently published in Hebrew.
Journalist Oren Nahari will talk with Handke about literary revolt, controversial political struggles, and writing that strives for truth at all costs.
