Clear Signs | Reading the Qur’an and Midrash with Dr. Orit Malka and Prof. Omer Michaeli

A beit midrash–style study session exploring the inner connection between the traditions of Talmudic and Quranic esotericism. The session will focus on readings from the opening verses of Surat Al-Baqarah (Al-Baqara), the second sura of the Quran—also known as “the small Quran”—alongside relevant Talmudic and Midrashic passages.

Led by Dr. Orit Malka and Prof. Omer Michaelis, the session will demonstrate the conceptual links between the two traditions and how they may serve as a key for interpreting some of the Quran’s deeper layers of meaning. The meeting will include guided study in paired learning groups (havruta).

Dr. Orit Malka is a senior lecturer in the Department of Talmud and the Faculty of Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Prof. Omer Michaelis is the head of the Department of Jewish Philosophy and Talmud at Tel Aviv University.
