Dr. Uri Mayer-Chissick specializes in the history of medicine and nutrition. His book “The Politics of Food” (Radical) exposes how the Israeli food system has been handed over to a small number of powerful corporations that dominate both the market and public life in the name of profit. Mayer-Chissick examines the power dynamics shaping what we eat: local agriculture versus global industry, tradition versus modernity, identity, health, and social justice. He also hosts the podcast “Shelf Life” (KAN 11), tracing the journey of products from field to plate. in this talk he will explore food as a political and cultural arena.
