This Isn’t Hungary: Gábor T. Szántó (Hungary) in Conversation with Nadav Halperin
This event will be held in English
Gábor T. Szántó is a Hungarian-Jewish author and the editor-in-chief of Jewish culture and politics magazine Szombat. His short story Homecoming, 1945 (published recently in his book 1945 and Other Stories) was the basis for director Ferenc Török’s acclaimed film 1945, which won awards at multiple international festivals, including the Jerusalem Film Festival.
Szántó – whose books have been translated into 10 languages and often addresses themes of post-Holocaust European life, dictatorship and modern Jewish identity, will speak with poet, translator, and radio host Nadav Halperin about his cultural activity in Hungary, political challenges under the Orbán regime, and the importance of Jewish identity in Eastern Europe.
This event is part of a collaboration to promote contemporary European literature between the European Union and the International Writers Festival at Mishkenot Sha'ananim.
