Drink and Be Merry: An Evening of Art, Ancient Texts, and Wine
The International Writers Festival at Mishkenot Sha’ananim, in collaboration with LABA – a global laboratory for Jewish culture and creativity – invites you to an intoxicating evening of art, ancient texts, and fine wine in the enchanting Gan Yael garden, overlooking the Old City walls of Jerusalem.
Our sages likened wine to a secret, ancient wisdom preserved in the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, and indeed, there is no more fitting way to study and celebrate Hebrew culture than with a glass of fine wine, the heart opening sip by sip.
Chaya Gilboa, a lecturer and teacher of Talmud and gender studies across various platforms, will read and interpret five passages from the Bible, Talmud, and Midrash that explore the themes of wine, intoxication, and elation. Musician and guide Amir Akiva Segal will lead us on a journey of musical ecstasy, joined by the ensemble Kol-tour and creator Reut Amar, whose work explores traditional melody, piyut, and ethnic music. Throughout the evening, we will taste five wines presented by “wine fairy” and sommelier Shira Granot, each paired to mirror the tone and texture of the ancient texts explored.
