The Armenian Book of Whispers: Varujan Vosganian (Romania) in Conversation with Prof. Riri Manor
Session conducted in English
Distinguished writer and former Finance Minister of Romania, Varujan Vosganian is the author of “The Book of Whispers” (published in Hebrew by Hakibbutz Hameuchad), a seminal work in contemporary Romanian literature that delves into the Armenian people’s historical tragedy and a third-generation survivor's attempts to trace it. Exploring the Armenian community’s hardships in the 20th century, including the 1915 displacement, the merciless death marches that resulted in the loss of one and a half million lives, the acts of resistance and rescue, and subsequent quests for revenge, the novel stands as a poignant testament to endurance and memory.
In conversation with doctor and poet Prof. Riri Manor, Vosganian will discuss themes surrounding the Armenian genocide, the significance of remembrance in culture and literature, and the coexistence of brutality and humanity within his writings.
This event is part of a collaboration to promote contemporary European literature between the European Union and the International Writers Festival at Mishkenot Sha'ananim.
