Homeward Bound: Ruby Namdar and Maya Arad in Conversation with Dr. Ruth Calderon
Author and translator Ruby Namdar, winner of the 2014 Sapir Prize for “The Ruined House,” is a key figure in contemporary Hebrew literature and for over three decades, a resident of New York. His short story collection “Big Fish” (Kinneret Zmora-Bitan Dvir Publishing, 2023) grapples with timeless questions of identity, place and belonging. Author Maya Arad, whose works often focus on the Israeli diaspora and literary-academic circles in the U.S., has been living in California for many years.
Namdar and Arad, two of the most esteemed Hebrew authors working outside of Israel today, will discuss with Dr. Ruth Calderon, educator and Talmud researcher working to promote Hebrew, Israeli and Jewish culture - Hebrew identity in exile, the literary and cultural ties between Israel and the U.S., and the deepening crisis in the American elite’s attitude toward Israel after October

This event is part of a three-session series titled “The Impact of War, At Home and Abroad,” held in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Israel and designed to address the challenges in Israel’s relations with the global community in the wake of October 7 and the war against Hamas.
