Pasolini’s Stories: Alon Altaras (Italy/Israel) and Roee Rosen in Conversation with Dr. Chiara Caradonna

Tuesday 28.5
20:30-22:00
Djanogly Hall

Pier Paolo Pasolini, celebrated for his work as a poet, novelist, filmmaker, cultural critic, screenwriter, and translator, embodies the spirit of a twentieth-century Renaissance man. He left an indelible mark across every discipline he engaged with, producing works of significant importance and, at times, iconic stature, despite being mysteriously murdered at only 53.

Pasolini scholar and senior Lecturer at the Department of Romances Studies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Dr. Chiara Caradonna will discuss his work and legacy with artist Roee Rosen and translator and author Alon Altaras, who translated Pasolini’s “Amado Mio” into Hebrew this year (published by Persimmon books). This collection takes readers back to Pasolini's early years in the rural region of Friuli, where he spent the years of World War II, depicting sexual encounters with young men, and exuberant and agonizing summer love.

The conversation will attempt to place these narratives within Pasolini’s broader body of work, examining their influence on his later output and the moral dilemmas they present in today’s context of political correctness and the MeToo movement.
