Following the October 7 events and the ensuing war, this year’s International Writers Festival will open with a literary evening dedicated to remembrance. Amidst the ancient city walls, authors Dror Mishani, Eshkol Nevo, and Noa Yedlin will discuss current events from a literary and human perspective, and poets Eli Eliahu, Adi Keissar, and Israel Neta will read poems penned after October 7.

The voices of family members will also be heard: Shlomit Lipshitz, mother of Staff Sgt. Lavi Lipshitz of the Givati Brigade, a talented photographer and artist who dreamed of filmmaking and was killed in Gaza; Liron Ben-Shlush, actress and cousin of Yahav Weiner, a director and film school graduate murdered in the Kibbutz Kfar Aza massacre; and Ilanit Swissa, a playwright and theater director from Kfar Aza who survived the massacre alongside her family when terrorists invaded their home.

Hen Zender will moderate the evening, which will close with a new musical piece by Yagel Harush, "Kinat Beeri," (“Be’eri Lament”) performed together with Rona Kenan.
