A Woman under the Influence | 1974
Dir. John Cassavetes | 155 minutes
English | Hebrew Subtitles
Cassavetes’ masterpiece charts the emotional meltdown of a suburban housewife. The dram unfolds episodically, and the improvised scenes are some of the finest examples of Cassavetes’ style. Gena Rowlands’ performance is heart-wrenching and unforgettable.
In her new memoir, “Broken Hours”, the poet, author and editor Riky Cohen returns to her complicated childhood in the shadow of a mentally ill mother. Writing with delicacy and awareness, she investigates her deceptive and painful childhood memories. As part of the Festival, Cohen will present the film “A Woman Under the Influence” and talk about how it influenced her and her work.
