In the land of Ashkenaz: Yirmi Pinkus and Matan Hermoni in conversation with Yaakov Hershkowitz

Wednesday 10.5
18:00 - 19:30
DJANOGLY HALL, MISHKENOT SHA'ANANIM CULTURAL CENTER

Yirmi Pinkus is an illustrator and author, and the winner of the 2009 Sapir Prize for a debut novel. His latest book, “Ha-hamdanim,” was in the running for the 2022 Sapir Prize. In his books, Pinkus writes humorously, ironically, and very affectionately about the small things in the life of Tel Aviv’s bourgeoisie and bohemians. Matan Hermoni, an author and researcher of Hebrew and Yiddish literature, was a contender for the 2011 Sapir Prize for his book, “Hebrew Publishing Company” and received the Levi Eshkol Prize for Hebrew Authors and the Bernstein Prize. The hero of his latest book, “Mahar Ani Yotze Mizeh (I’m Getting out of this Tomorrow),” launches a business to sell seminar papers, intending to translate the knowledge acquired in the deteriorating humanities faculties into merchandise that can be sold for money, a lot of money. Pinkus and Hermoni will talk with Dr. Yaakov Hershkowitz, a Hebrew and Yiddish literature researcher, about Hebrew humor, Yiddish sources of humor and the decline of Ashkenazi culture.
