Michal Hvorecký is among the leading voices in contemporary Slovak literature and the recipient of the Slovak Literary Prize in 2009. His work probes themes of identity, popular culture, and the impact of technology on modern society.

His novel Troll (Pardes, 2024, translated by Pe’er Friedmann) penetrates the dark heart of the modern propaganda industry. Set in a dystopian future (or present?), the story blurs the line between truth and deception, following a digital mercenary skilled in narrative manipulation and sowing online chaos through fraud. As the consequences of his work grow more disturbing, he is forced to confront the ethical outcomes of his actions and the insidious forces that employ him.

Hvorecký will speak with writer Ayal Hayut-Man – whose book, Tractate of the Void, won the 2024 Sapir Prize’s Debut Novel category – about power, technology, the human psyche, and the fate of truth in the age of social media.

This event is part of a collaboration to promote contemporary European literature between the European Union and the International Writers Festival at Mishkenot Sha'ananim.
