The event will be held in French with simultaneous translation into Hebrew
Abigail Assor is a French author born in Casablanca, Morocco. Her debut novel, As Rich as the King (Am Oved, 2024, translated by Rama Ayalon), was met with critical acclaim in France and was shortlisted for the prestigious Prix Goncourt. At the center of this sensual and subversive novel stands Sarah, a sharp and beautiful woman living in Casablanca. When she meets the wealthy Driss, she sets out to seduce him in hopes of escaping a life of poverty. The novel follows her journey through the streets of Casablanca and her confrontation with the city’s social, economic, and cultural tensions.
Assor will speak with actress and producer Yael Abecassis about contemporary takes on the story of Cinderella and the complex cultural ties between Morocco and France.
This event is part of a collaboration to promote contemporary European literature between the European Union and the International Writers Festival at Mishkenot Sha'ananim.
