The Academy of Gothic Studies: Oded Wolkstein in Conversation with Lisa Peretz
Supported by the Culture and Community Innovation Foundation
Dr. Oded Wolkstein (Israel) is a writer, translator, editor, and literary critic. His fondness for the horror and gothic mystery genres is evident in his fiction, which includes the works I say to you that I am dead!: On Edgar Allan Poe (2016), Night Shift (2017), and Thicket (2019). His latest novel, Infants Academy, focuses on a lecturer who becomes involved in a forbidden relationship with a college student. Thicket tells the story of a man who gets lost in the woods and meets among the trees a girl who claims he is her father.
Wolkstein will speak with journalist and editor Lisa Peretz about Edgar Allan Poe as an inspiration, relationships between children and adults, Hebrew gothic literature, and boundary-crossing sexuality in the #MeToo era.
